How to Choose an Area Rug Color for Hardwood Floors

If you have hardwood flooring then you should also know all the reasons to purchase an area rug. Apart from offering the obvious benefit of keeping your floor healthy, an area rug also offers comfort and cushion for you on the hard surface and add texture and color to any room. The areas rug that you will choose for your hardwood floor should either blend in or contrasts with the overall color scheme. Here are a few tips on how to choose an area rug color for hardwood floors:

1. Complement the Floor: If you wish for a blended look in your room, where the colors of walls, upholstery and accessories should match with each other, choose an area rug that matches and complements the color of your floor. Use a neutral color on the floor, which unifies all the furniture and accessories together and keeps the room visually appealing.

2. Contrast the Floor: Do you know? When you contrast colors, you draw attention towards that particular area or room. You should opt for a contrasting colored rug if you wish to highlight a focal point on the hardwood floor. For instance, if your hardwood floor features ceramic tile inset, choose a rug that contrast the color of hardwood in order to draw the eye downward.

3. Match with Upholstery: Being an important element of a living room, upholstery covers everything from love seats to sofas to drapes on the window. And, all of this will obviously not match with the color of hardwood floor. Irrespective of what your floor color is, if you match your rug to the colors of your upholstery then also you can tie the room together without matching the colors of your hardwood floor to the rugs directly.

4. Match with Secondary Colors: A lot of hardwood floors consist of various colors, which are spread throughout the wood. Although the stains will darken the wood, keeping things more uniform in color, secondary colors will still have a chance to show through. In this case, you can give a blended feeling to the room by matching the rug to these colors. All you need to do is to choose secondary colors of the room as the color of the rug, for examples if you have wallpaper, which features many colors, try matching the colors of the prints as inverse to the color of the actual wall.

Always remember, if you choose the right area rug then it will give a whole new look to your hardwood floors and will completely transform your room too. It will also protect it from scratches, cracks or any other damage.

Whether you need a small area rug for an entryway, kitchen or bathroom, or are in the market for a large rug that will cover the floor in a big, open space, RugPal has you covered.
